Skincare Routines (Morning and Night)

A skincare routine does not need to be complicated to be effective.  Most skin responds best to a small number of well-chosen steps used consistently, rather than frequent product changes or overly layered routines.

At ALLOR, routines are built around how the skin functions day to day.  The goal is to support skin stability, tolerance, and long-term results, whether the concern is acne, pigmentation, sensitivity, or ageing.

The Purpose of a Routine

Morning and evening routines serve different roles.

• Morning skincare focuses on protection and preparation
• Evening skincare focuses on repair, renewal, and recovery

Using the same products morning and night may not be the best fit for everyone.  Skin needs change across the day, and routines should reflect that rather than defaulting to “one size fits all”.

A Simple, Effective Morning Routine

A morning routine should be protective and uncomplicated.

A basic structure includes:

Cleanser

A gentle, pH-balanced cleanser helps remove overnight oil, sweat, and residue without stripping the skin. Harsh or foaming cleansers in the morning often increase dryness, sensitivity, or rebound oil production.

Active Serum

This step is tailored to skin needs.  Examples may include:
• Antioxidants to help reduce environmental stress
• Hydrating serums to support comfort and barrier function
• Targeted ingredients for pigmentation or redness when appropriate such as Vitamin C

Moisturiser

Moisturiser supports hydration and improves how the skin tolerates both actives and sunscreen.  Even oily or acne-prone skin benefits from appropriate hydration in the morning.

Sunscreen

Daily sunscreen is the most important morning step.  It protects against ultraviolet exposure that drives pigmentation, premature ageing, sensitivity, and skin cancer.

Without sunscreen, other skincare steps are significantly less effective over time.

A Simple, Effective Evening Routine

Evening skincare supports repair and renewal after daily environmental exposure.

A basic structure includes:

Cleanser

Cleansing at night removes sunscreen, pollution, sweat, and debris.  For some skin types, a single gentle cleanse is sufficient.  For heavier sunscreen or makeup use, a double cleanse and/or exfoliating cleanser may be appropriate.

Active Serum

This is where ingredients such as retinoids, exfoliating acids, or pigment-targeting treatments are used.

These should be:
• Introduced gradually
• Used at appropriate strength
• Adjusted based on skin response

Using multiple actives at once is a common cause of irritation and stalled progress, so it is important to receive guidance as to the most appropriate active for you and your skin.

Moisturiser

Night-time moisturiser supports recovery, reduces irritation from active ingredients, and limits overnight water loss.  This step is essential when using retinoids and/or exfoliants.

Why Fewer Products Often Work Better

Reduce the skincare products used.jpg

Many skin concerns persist not because the “wrong” products are used, but because the routine is overloaded.

Common issues include:

• Layering multiple actives without recovery time
• Changing products too frequently to assess response
• Using strength rather than tolerance as the guide

Skin that is calmer and more stable responds more predictably.  Progress is usually gradual and cumulative, not immediate.

Personalised Routines and Prescription Skincare

Some ingredients, such as prescription retinoids, are not available over the counter and are not suitable for everyone.

At ALLOR, skincare plans may include:

• Over-the-counter products when appropriate
• Prescription skincare when indicated and safe
• Adjustments based on skin response, treatments, and lifestyle

This allows routines to be tailored, escalated, or simplified as needed, rather than relying on trial and error.

Skincare Programs and Professional Guidance

Some medical-grade skincare systems are designed to be used as structured programs, rather than as individual, mix-and-match products.  These programs are typically supplied through authorised medical providers to ensure they are selected, introduced, and adjusted appropriately.

At ALLOR, this includes structured skincare programs from the ZO® Skin Health range, which are designed to work as co-ordinated systems with specific sequencing and progression.  While individual ZO® products can be used selectively, the program-based approach is more effective and where professional assessment and ongoing adjustment are particularly important as the skin responds.

Other medical-grade ranges, such as Synergie Skin and Heliocare, are generally used more flexibly as individual products.  These may be incorporated into a routine to support specific concerns such as pigmentation, sensitivity, or sun protection, without requiring a full program approach.

Professional assessment helps determine:

• Which steps are genuinely beneficial for your skin

• Whether a structured program or individual products are more appropriate

• How active ingredients should be introduced and sequenced safely

• When routines should be adjusted due to treatments, seasonal change, or skin behaviour

This approach avoids the common pattern of layering products without a clear plan, which often leads to irritation, stalled progress, or inconsistent results.

How We Approach Skincare Routines at ALLOR

At ALLOR, skincare routines are treated as part of an overall skin strategy, not a checklist.

We focus on:

• Simple, evidence-based products and programs
• Products that work together rather than compete
• Supporting skin tolerance before increasing intensity
• Adjusting routines as skin needs evolve over time

The goal is not to complicate things.  It is to do the right amount of skincare, in the right order, consistently.

Skin that is supported, protected, and allowed to settle tends to behave more reliably than skin that is constantly being corrected.
