MICRONEEDLING
Skin Rejuvenation for Scars, Pores & Fine Lines in Auckland
What Is Microneedling And How Does It Work?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a safe, minimally invasive treatment designed to stimulate your skin’s natural repair process.
Using a specialised hand-held device with ultra-fine needles, tiny, controlled micro-injuries across the skin’s surface are created. While these tiny microscopic punctures are virtually invisible to the eye, they’re powerful enough to activate your body’s natural healing response, without scar formation.

During the healing response, the skin releases cytokines and growth factors, which trigger increased collagen and elastin production. Over time, this leads to smoother texture, improved firmness, reduction of scars, and a more radiant, rejuvenated appearance.
Serums and Clinical Enhancements
To enhance results, we apply targeted, prescription serums before and immediately after microneedling. The micro-channels created during treatment allow these active ingredients to absorb more effectively into the deeper layers of the skin.
This combination supports skin healing, reduces inflammation, and enhances collagen stimulation - amplifying overall skin renewal and leaving the skin looking refreshed and revitalised.
In some cases, specific clinical formulations may be incorporated such as NCTF®, including options with evidence for improving concerns such as acne scarring. This is tailored to your skin and treatment goals which are discussed during your consultation.
How Microneedling Helps Improve Skin Texture and Scarring
Scarring (from Acne, Wounds or Other Skin Trauma)
Helps break down damaged scar tissue and stimulate new collagen, gradually smoothing uneven texture and softening the appearance of scars.
Fine Lines & Early Wrinkles
Boosts collagen and elastin production, improving skin firmness and reducing the appearance of lines, for a naturally refreshed look.
Dull or Uneven Texture
Promotes healthy cell turnover, allowing fresher, healthier skin to emerge - resulting in a more radiant, refined complexion.
Enlarged Pores & Blackheads
Tightens the skin and reduces pore size, helping to clear congestion and improve overall skin clarity.
Loss of Firmness or Skin Laxity
Supports a firmer more youthful appearance by stimulating collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy skin.
If you don’t see your concern listed here, that doesn’t mean microneedling isn’t for you. Everyone’s skin is different, and we’re always happy to discuss whether this treatment or another option is the right fit for your goals during an initial consultation.
Microneedling Treatment Areas
Microneedling is not limited to the face. At ALLOR we treat a range of body areas, depending on the concern and your goals.

Face:
The most common treatment area. Used for acne scarring, fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, pigmentation, and overall skin quality improvement.
Neck and décolletage:
Skin laxity and texture changes in these areas respond well to microneedling. Often treated as an extension of a facial treatment.
Hands:
Microneedling improves skin texture and firmness on the backs of the hands, where thinning skin and sun damage are common concerns.
Stretch marks:
Microneedling for stretch marks can soften their appearance by stimulating collagen in the affected skin. Results are gradual and depend on the age and colour of the marks - newer stretch marks typically respond better than older, white ones.
Abdomen and caesarean scars:
Microneedling is used on abdominal skin and post-surgical scars, including caesarean section scars, to improve texture and soften scar tissue over time.
Legs and body skin:
Areas such as the thighs can be treated for stretch marks, texture irregularities, and general skin quality improvement.
Arms:
Microneedling can improve skin texture and firmness on the upper arms, where crepey or sun-damaged skin is a common concern.
Hands:
The backs of the hands often show early signs of ageing. Microneedling helps improve skin texture and overall skin quality in this area.
Step-By-Step: Your Microneedling Treatment
at ALLOR Cosmetic Medicine
Before Your Treatment: How to Prepare
The following are general preparation guidelines commonly recommended before microneedling treatment. Your individual situation may vary, and you should always follow personalised advice provided during your initial consultation.
1. Please avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin and ibuprofen) for 24 hours before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and pinpoint bleeding. If you take prescribed medications, these will be discussed during your initial consultation. Do not stop any prescribed medications unless advised by your prescribing doctor.
2. Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, your skin will also be cleansed before treatment. Arriving make-up free helps ensure a clean canvas and minimises the risk of infection.
3. Avoid facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, hair removal and microdermabrasion for at least one week beforehand and one week after. Active skincare ingredients such as retinoids (vitamin A/retinol), AHAs, and exfoliants are typically paused for at least three to five days beforehand, as these can increase skin sensitivity.
4. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment to support healthy, hydrated skin.
5. If you have any active skin infections, cold sores, allergies or other concerns, please let us know before your appointment so these can be discussed and managed appropriately.
6. Schedule your treatment at least one week before any important events to allow time for settling and optimal results.
During Your Microneedling Treatment
1. Microneedling treatments usually last around 45 minutes.
2. Before your microneedling treatment begins, we thoroughly cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
3. The microneedling device is gently applied to the skin in smooth, controlled movements across the treatment areas. Many patients describe this sensation as similar to a light, scratchy feeling, a bit like fine sandpaper gliding over the skin. Some areas may feel more sensitive than others, but the rapid motion of the device and the use of a soothing, hydrating gel helps keep the experience comfortable. We also offer distraction devices if need be to further ensure your treatment is relaxed and pleasant.
4. The microneedling pen is equipped with sterile, single-use needle cartridges that are individually sealed to ensure maximum safety and hygiene throughout your treatment.
5. To support the healing and rejuvenation process initiated by microneedling, we apply a cooling, nourishing face mask followed by a selection of prescription targeted serums. Your skin is then moisturized and gently massaged, leaving you feeling pampered and rejuvenated. We like to think of it like a fancy facial that generates real results!
Immediately After Treatment: What You’ll Notice
1. After your microneedling treatment, you’ll notice an immediate “glow” to the skin - similar to a mild sunburn or an intense workout. This is completely normal and a sign that your skin’s natural healing process has been activated. You may also experience a feeling of warmth or tightness in the treated area for a few hours following the procedure.
2. To ensure the best outcome, We provide you with clear aftercare instructions and can recommend tailored skincare products to support your healing if desired. We also offer a complimentary follow-up appointment four to six weeks after your treatment course to review your progress, answer any questions, and ensure you are happy with your results.
3. You can return to your usual activities the following day, but we do recommend avoiding direct sun exposure while your skin is healing. We also highly recommend use of a high-quality sunscreen such as Heliocare 360® to protect your results and your skin long-term.

When Microneedling Results Start to Show
1. Redness after microneedling is completely normal and typically lasts anywhere from two to four days, although some patients find their skin calms within 24 hours. As the redness fades, you’ll begin to notice a fresh, healthy glow with more visible improvements typically appearing around four to six weeks.
2. Total healing time can vary depending on the depth of the treatment and how many passes are performed with the microneedling device, both of which are carefully tailored to your skin’s needs.
3. While some patients will see noticeable improvements after just one session, most will benefit from a course of three to six treatments, spaced one to six weeks apart, for optimal results.
4. Results vary from person to person depending on your skin type, goals, and the condition being treated. If you’re unsure where to start, book an initial consultation to explore your options and create a tailored treatment plan that’s right for you.

Why Choose ALLOR for Microneedling in Auckland
Microneedling is widely available across Auckland in clinics, med-spas, and beauty salons. While the treatment itself is straightforward, the results depend on who performs it, the device used, and how the treatment is tailored to your skin.
Doctor-led treatment
Every microneedling treatment at ALLOR is performed by Dr. Heather Anderson, an Emergency Doctor with postgraduate training in cosmetic medicine. Your skin is assessed before every session, with needle depth, treatment areas, and technique adjusted in real time. This is not a fixed protocol, it is tailored to your skin at each visit.
Medical-grade device
We use the m.pen pro by Mesoestetic - a professional microneedling device with sterile, single-use cartridges. It allows precise control of needle depth and consistency of treatment, which is not achievable with at-home rollers or entry-level devices.
Collagen induction approach
Microneedling at ALLOR is performed as collagen induction therapy, not just a mechanical treatment. Prescription targeted serums and clinical formulations are applied alongside the procedure to support healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance collagen response.
Conservative, cumulative results
Treatment is approached gradually and deliberately. The goal is consistent, cumulative improvement over a series of sessions - not overly aggressive treatment that increases downtime without improving outcomes.
Complimentary follow-up care
Every treatment includes a complimentary follow-up appointment 4-6 weeks later. This allows your skin response to be reviewed and your treatment plan refined before further treatments.
Local, patient-focused care
We regularly see patients from Whenuapai, Hobsonville, Westgate, and across West Auckland, as well as from wider Auckland and beyond.
