BOTOX® FOR HAYFEVER (HAYTOX) IN AUCKLAND
Gentle relief for sneezing, runny nose, and congestion

What is Hayfever (Allergic Rhinitis)?
Hayfever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is an inflammatory reaction in the nose caused by everyday airborne triggers such as pollen, dust mites, mould, or pet dander.
When these particles are inhaled, the nasal tissue becomes inflamed and overproduces mucus. That swelling and excess mucus cause sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, post-nasal drip, and sometimes pressure in the face. Some people notice itchy eyes and throat as well.
In New Zealand, many people have seasonal hayfever that flares in spring and summer when pollen counts rise. Others have perennial hayfever with symptoms through the year, most often due to dust mites or indoor mould.

Hayfever Treatment Options and Who Haytox Can Help
Hayfever care usually starts with simple measures managed by your GP or pharmacist. These can include saline rinses, intranasal steroid sprays, non-sedating antihistamines such as Loratadine (Claratyne®) or Cetirizine (Histaclear®), practical allergen-avoidance, and for selected people allergen immunotherapy.
For many people, these measures are enough. At ALLOR, we become involved only when nasal symptoms persist despite standard therapies. When people have exhausted sprays, antihistamines, and other first-line options, we offer Botulinum Toxin inside the nose (often called “Haytox”), delivered as a fine intranasal spray to calm overactive nasal glands.
Botox® For Hayfever (Haytox): How It Helps
The intranasal Botulinum toxin spray (no needles) calms the nasal glands by blocking acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in excessive mucus production and gland activity. Precise placement into the nasal lining can reduce a constantly runny nose, sneezing, post-nasal drip, and congestion. It will not treat the underlying allergy, so many people continue simple allergy measures alongside it. Our aim is comfortable breathing, better sleep, and fewer interruptions to your day.
Who Is Haytox Right For?
You may be a good candidate if you:
-
Have seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis with persistent nasal symptoms.
-
Have tried sprays and antihistamines without enough relief, or prefer to avoid frequent decongestant use.
-

Please note: We do not perform this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active nasal or sinus infection, or certain neuromuscular conditions. We will cover your health history carefully at your intial consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Haytox?
Haytox is Botulinum Toxin delivered as a fine intranasal spray to reduce activity in overactive nasal glands. There are no needles through the skin. Most people say it feels similar to an over-the-counter nasal spray.
How does Haytox work?
It blocks acetylcholine in the nasal lining, which reduces mucus production and swelling. That helps settle a constantly runny nose, sneezing, post-nasal drip, and congestion.
When will I see Haytox results, and how long do they last?
Improvement is often noticed within 3–7 days, with full benefit typically seen by two weeks. Relief usually lasts around 3–4 months. Many patients choose to book treatment 2–3 weeks before their usual hayfever season, so results are established as pollen levels rise.
Is Haytox safe? Are there any side effects?
Most effects are mild and brief: a stuffy feeling, light dripping, a small nosebleed, or a dry/crusty sensation inside the nose. A simple saline spray usually settles this. Serious side effects are rare. Your suitability, along with potential risks and benefits are discussed during your consultation.
Hayfever or a cold - how can I tell?
Hayfever flares when you meet a trigger and usually causes clear, watery mucus, itching, and repetitive sneezing. Colds build over 1–2 days with sore throat, coloured mucus, body aches, and sometimes fever. Hayfever isn’t contagious. If symptoms last more than 10 days without fever or aches, allergy is more likely.
How much does Haytox cost?
Haytox treatment is $400 per session at ALLOR Cosmetic Medicine. See our Botulinum Toxin price guide for details.
